Design a Modern Home that Still Feels Livable

From the start, the homeowner had a clear direction: a distinctly modern home—something uncommon in West Michigan. They came in with specific ideas, including a single slanted roofline, a darker exterior palette, and a clean aesthetic that still needed to feel warm and functional.

The challenge wasn’t defining the style—it was making sure those ideas worked as a complete home, not just a collection of modern features.

The design focused on open space, natural light, and strong connections to the rear of the property. Every decision—from layout to material selection—was made to balance simplicity with warmth, so the home feels intentional rather than stark.

Subtle color and personal details were layered in to reflect the homeowner’s personality without competing with the architecture.

The result is a modern home that fits its setting—and actually feels comfortable to live in.
