Who We Are
Start with the home.
Then build the right projects.
Home Specialists is a design-build firm, but our work doesn’t start with a project. It starts by stepping back and understanding the direction of the home—how it should function, evolve, and fit together over time.
Founded by brothers Kevin and Trent, Home Specialists was built on the belief that homeowners deserve more than fast estimates and isolated project decisions. Remodeling should bring clarity, confidence, and a stronger long-term direction for the home—not uncertainty and second-guessing later.
Instead of making decisions in isolation, we work collaboratively with homeowners to define the right direction before design and construction begin. That process helps ensure projects work together, decisions make sense in context, and construction follows a well-considered plan.
The result is fewer surprises, less guesswork, and projects that actually fit the home long term.
Minds Behind the Work

Kevin D.
President
Kevin founded Home Specialists in 1999, driven by a lifelong passion for building—and a belief that most remodeling problems start long before construction begins. Inspired by his father, an industrial arts shop teacher, he grew up learning craftsmanship, precision, and the discipline to get things right from the start.
Over time, he saw the same pattern repeat: projects that looked right on their own but didn’t fit the home, decisions made in isolation, and homeowners second-guessing what they had just invested in. Not because the work was poor—but because the thinking behind it was incomplete.
That’s what shaped his approach. Today, Kevin leads with a clear point of view: define the direction of the home first, so every project that follows actually fits, works together, and holds up over time.
Because if you start in the wrong place, even the right work can lead to the wrong outcome.

Trent D.
VP of Operations
Trent joined his brother Kevin at Home Specialists in 2004, helping build a design-build company grounded in integrity and disciplined execution.
As the leader of operations, Trent ensures that clear thinking holds up in the field—because that’s where most projects go off track. Small decisions start to drift, priorities shift, and what gets built slowly moves away from what was originally intended.
Trent prevents that drift. He keeps every project aligned with the defined direction of the home—holding the line on quality, sequencing, and execution so the outcome reflects the plan, not just what was easiest in the moment.
Because a good plan only works if it survives real-world execution.

Bill R.
Accountant
Bill helps keep the operational side of Home Specialists organized, aligned, and moving forward smoothly. From accounting and IT to internal coordination, he supports the systems behind every project so communication, planning, and execution stay consistent across the company. His detail-oriented approach helps create the kind of clarity and structure that supports better remodeling experiences for homeowners.

Sue D.
Accounts Payable

Pat D.
Office Manager, Billing

Jan D.
Design Coordination
Jan helps ensure design decisions are connected to the larger direction of the home—not just the individual project being discussed. She works closely with homeowners and the team to help spaces relate well to one another, function cohesively, and support how the home should live over time.
Too often, remodeling decisions are made in isolation, leading to spaces that may look good individually but feel disconnected long term. Jan helps bring coordination and context to the design process so decisions are more intentional, aligned, and better supported before construction begins.
Her thoughtful, detail-oriented approach helps homeowners move forward with greater clarity and confidence, knowing the design is being considered as part of the home as a whole.

Tia P.
Client Coordinator
Client Coordinator
Tia is often the first conversation homeowners have with Home Specialists, which makes her an important part of how projects begin. Rather than simply scheduling appointments, she helps start the process by listening carefully, understanding where homeowners are coming from, and helping guide the conversation toward the bigger picture of the home.
Too often, remodeling begins with a single project in isolation. Tia helps create a more thoughtful starting point by making sure the right information, questions, and communication are in place early—before decisions move too far forward. Her role helps support the clarity, coordination, and preparation that direction-led design-build requires.
Through organized communication and early coordination, Tia helps homeowners feel supported from the very beginning while helping the team stay aligned around the direction of the home.

Scott G.
Project Developer
Scott works directly with homeowners to help define the right path for their home before decisions are made too quickly or in isolation. With more than 28 years of residential construction experience, including 18 years in contractor sales, he brings both practical building knowledge and a strong understanding of how early decisions impact everything that follows.
Too often, remodeling starts with a single project instead of the direction of the home. Scott helps homeowners step back, evaluate the bigger picture, and identify the projects that make the most sense together—so design, budgeting, and construction move forward with greater clarity and fewer surprises.
His role is not simply to help homeowners start a project, but to help them make better long-term decisions for their home.

Andy W.
Estimator
Estimator
Andy helps translate early planning and design decisions into clear, organized project understanding before construction begins. He works closely with the team, vendors, and trade partners to ensure the details behind a project are carefully evaluated, coordinated, and accounted for upfront.
Too often, projects move into pricing before the full scope is properly understood, leading to confusion, allowances, and costly surprises later. Andy’s role helps support a more thoughtful approach by making sure the work being proposed aligns with the direction, priorities, and intent established early in the process.
His detail-oriented mindset and analytical approach help create greater clarity around what is actually being built—so homeowners can move forward with more confidence and fewer unknowns.

Ellis L.
Safety Coordinator
Ellis helps support the structure, accountability, and operational discipline required for projects to run smoothly and responsibly. With experience in Human Resources, Training, Safety, Business Development, and Operations, he brings a broad understanding of how strong systems and preparation contribute to better outcomes across the company.
Thoughtful remodeling requires more than good ideas—it also requires consistent processes, communication, and jobsite responsibility throughout execution. Ellis helps reinforce those standards through safety coordination, training, and operational support that help projects stay organized and teams stay prepared.
His role supports the kind of stable, well-coordinated environment needed for planning and construction to come together successfully.

Shawn K.
Project Manager
Shawn helps ensure the vision created early in the process carries through during construction the way it was intended. With more than 20 years of residential and commercial remodeling experience, along with leadership training from his time in the military, he brings steady coordination, accountability, and field leadership to every project.
When remodeling starts by first considering the direction of the home, every detail needs to continue supporting that vision as construction moves forward. Shawn plays a key role in making sure the work happening day to day stays connected to the larger plan—so spaces fit together properly, decisions remain aligned, and the original intent does not slowly get diluted during execution.
He works closely with homeowners, trade partners, and the internal team to keep communication clear, solve problems proactively, and maintain consistency from start to finish. His role is not simply managing construction, but helping thoughtful planning hold up in the real world.

When projects are planned with the larger direction of the home in mind, execution matters at every stage. Rick helps ensure the craftsmanship, coordination, and day-to-day decisions made on site continue to support the original vision and long-term intent behind the work.
