Expanding the Home to Create a Private Retreat

Make More Space—Without Losing What Makes the Home Feel Right.
For this homeowner, moving wasn’t the goal. Staying in the home they love was—but as their family grew, space became a real limitation. The opportunity was in the unused attic, but the challenge was making it feel like a natural extension of the home—not an add-on.
In a house over 100 years old, that meant designing with restraint. Proportions, window placement, and trim details were carefully considered to match the character of the existing home. A neutral palette helped carry that continuity through, so nothing felt forced or out of place.
The focus wasn’t just creating a new master suite—it was making sure it belonged.
The result is a private, functional space that fits seamlessly into the home, both in how it looks and how it lives.
